1JE 2017 - 2018
Welcome to 1JE's class page.
Parent Information: Our PE days are Monday and Thursday, please can you make sure your child has their kit in and comes to school without jewellery on these days. Please can you also provide a bobble to tie long hair up if appropriate.
Reading books - They are then given time during the day to go and change their books. They are also given the opportunity and asked in a small group after their guided reading session. Some children do change their books every day but others don't seem to be doing so. Thank you to the parents who have sent their child back in at the end of the day or have come to us to say they haven't changed it. It is much easier for us to remind your child if you have asked us as we don't have time to collect in and go through 30 planners every day. From Monday, children will be asked each morning to place their planners and books in a certain place IF they need to change their book so that we can remind those children to change their books.
We have started our new year topic and already had some adventures as Pirates--oo-argghh!!
This week we have been getting very excited about our new topic! We turned our room into a dessert island and carried out a role play activity. The children were pirates on board a ship, when all of a sudden the ship hit a rock and sank to the bottom of the ocean! The children had to quickly swim to an island that they could see in the distance. We explored the question "How would you survive on a pirates treasure island?" The children built shelters, wrote messages in a bottle and went searching for food.
In maths this week we have been partitioning our teen numbers to then add ones (units). See the example below. We have also been using a numberline to subtract ones by jumping backwards.
During English lessons we have read the story 'Grandads Island'. We received a letter from Grandad explaining that he had been captured by pirates and as a class we have decided that we should try and rescue him. We have written a letter back to him explaining this and asking a question to help us with the rescue mission. We have been working on question marks, full stops, capital letters and finger spaces.
During our topic lessons, we researched and discussed the life of some famous pirates. We have all chosen our favourites and drawn and writen about them.
