1JE 2017 - 2018
Welcome to 1JE's class page.
Parent Information: Our PE days are Monday and Thursday, please can you make sure your child has their kit in and comes to school without jewellery on these days. Please can you also provide a bobble to tie long hair up if appropriate.
Reading books - They are then given time during the day to go and change their books. They are also given the opportunity and asked in a small group after their guided reading session. Some children do change their books every day but others don't seem to be doing so. Thank you to the parents who have sent their child back in at the end of the day or have come to us to say they haven't changed it. It is much easier for us to remind your child if you have asked us as we don't have time to collect in and go through 30 planners every day. From Monday, children will be asked each morning to place their planners and books in a certain place IF they need to change their book so that we can remind those children to change their books.
We have 2 new teachers!
Mrs Harrop teaches on Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Jones teaches on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Here is a little bit of information about us!
Mrs Harrop (was Miss Munro until last year!)
I have worked at Offley for about 13 years. I have mainly been in Year 2 and Year 3, but had the opportunity to teach in all year groups for a term too. I live in Scholar Green with my husband, 2 little girls, a nearly 4 year old a 15 month old and we have a Lhasa Apso dog. We designed and built our own house and it is an ongoing project that we are very excited about and enjoy doing.
I have been teaching now for 9 years. I have been at Offley for 3 years. I have mainly taught years 1 and 2, however last year I had the opportunity to work in Year 4. I live in Congleton with my husband and my two little boys (Jack who is 5 and Tyler who is 9 months). We also have a dog called Barney so our house is a very busy household! In my spare time I take part in Amateur Dramatic shows down at the Daneside Theatre in Congleton. I also enjoy going skiing with my family and spending time with family and friends. It is great to be back at Offley and I look forward to working with you all.
We have had a super Science week this week! Thank you to all the volunteers and people who have been in to school to give workshops to the children. The children have had a great time.
We took part in an experiment to see if we could design a device that would safely land eggs on Mars (well on the ground outside from a height of 2m). We used materials such as 2 pieces of paper, 4 pieces of cotton wool pads, 2 balloons and sellotape. Our device sadly did not pass this mission, but the children learnt a lot about experimenting, making predictions and finding and reporting results. Here are a couple of photos:
On Wednesday we had a fantastic workshop with Dogs Trust, who taught us lots of things about Dogs and their senses. The children loved this session very much.
On Thursday we had a workshop from the Forensic team, where children explored with finger printing and how the forensic team use these finger prints when trying to catch bad guys!
We also had a workshop from the Vets and children were thinking hard about what pets need and what they can and can't eat.
On Friday we had Zoo2U, where children came face to face with a tortoise, Tenric and a Kestrel. The children have had a very exciting week.
In English, we have continued our work on writing a recount about our trip to the sea life centre. We have learnt to use Time Connectives to help us to order events as well as writing in 1st Person and writing about our opinions.
In Maths, we have been exploring with tens and ones and began to use our new phrases: Build it! Draw it! Solve it!
