1JE 2017 - 2018
Welcome to 1JE's class page!
My name is Mr Earlam and I teach one of the Year 1 classes. I have been teaching at Offley since 2014. I have a big passion for sport and I am lucky enough to share this with the children through my role as P.E co-ordinator. I run a lot of different sports clubs throughout the year as well as organising some of the Key Stage 2 sports teams. I am married and have two children who I spend my spare time chasing after.
Parent Information: Our PE days are Monday and Thursday, please can you make sure your child has their kit in and comes to school without jewellery on these days. Please can you also provide a bobble to tie long hair up if appropriate.
Reading books - They are then given time during the day to go and change their books. They are also given the opportunity and asked in a small group after their guided reading session. Some children do change their books every day but others don't seem to be doing so. Thank you to the parents who have sent their child back in at the end of the day or have come to us to say they haven't changed it. It is much easier for us to remind your child if you have asked us as we don't have time to collect in and go through 30 planners every day. From Monday, children will be asked each morning to place their planners and books in a certain place IF they need to change their book so that we can remind those children to change their books.
This week in English the children have switched their focus to the 'Night Zoo Keeper'. For this the children have to create their own magical animal character. They started by drawing and naming their character. After this they started writing a description for their characters using finger spaces, capital letters, full stops and also trying to link ideas together using the connective 'and'. Next week they will continue building their characters profile by writing about its home and its magical powers.
In Maths the children have continued to learn about different representations for addition and subtraction problems and learning which is the best method to solve problems. They have been using tens frames, pictures, part part whole and regular equations to solve problems.
The children have also been creating art work for their classroom to link with their learning and the time of year. They have collected and used Autumn leaves to make wreaths and they have made model bats to hang from the ceiling.
In Science the children have started learning about animal classifications and what makes certain animals fit in their classifications. They have been introduced to mammals, fish, birds and the terms carnivore, herbivore and omnivore. They have also learnt about how to stay safe around fire and bonfire night.
