1SA 2018 - 2019
Welcome to 1SA's class page!
Hi my name is Miss Allan and this is my fourth year teaching at Offley Primary Academy and it is my first time teaching Year 1, which I am thoroughly excited about. I coordinate Science with Mrs Till and we are already looking forward to our next Science week here at Offley. I am passionate about embracing practical opportunities for the children to expand their learning by making lessons fun. At home I love spending time with my three dogs; especially my pug Darcy, I also thoroughly enjoy craft projects. 1SA is also very lucky to have Mrs Perry spending some time in our class during the week. Each week I will update our class page and share 1SA's learning journey with you all.
1SA’s P.E slots take place on a Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their P.E. kit for each of these days.
Children are prompted to change their reading book each day, if they have read their book. We encourage children to read atleast four times a week and they will recieve a sticker for this, consistent reading each week will enable children to receive the reading treat at the end of term.
We have had a super week here in 1SA!
In maths, we have been exploring number bonds within and up to 10 in a variety of ways. We used part- part wholes and tens frames to help us to solve the different number bond activities.
In English, we have written about where The Hundred Decker Bus went next on its journey such as the jungle or to a winter village, we used our story maps to help us. We then moved onto developing our use of finger spaces, full stops and capital letters by fixing Miss Allan’s sentences.
In our topic sessions, we began learning about the famous pilot, Amelia Earhart. We loved finding out lots of interesting facts about her such as why she is remembered and what the name of her first aeroplane was. Here are some examples of what we discovered.
Here is a link to a video we enjoyed watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIN_Ldp2S74
In P.E we have been developing our balance skills. We learnt how to side step and then challenged ourselves to turn 180 degrees whilst moving. Well done 1SA! Here are some action shots of our session.
In our science session, we hunted around our classroom for objects that were made from two or more materials and we were surprised with how many different objects we could find.
Next week (24th September)
In maths, we are going to be learning how to use different mathematical symbols in number sentences.
In English, we are going to begin planning our own Hundred Decker Bus adventures.
