1SA 2018 - 2019
Welcome to 1SA's class page!
Hi my name is Miss Allan and this is my fourth year teaching at Offley Primary Academy and it is my first time teaching Year 1, which I am thoroughly excited about. I coordinate Science with Mrs Till and we are already looking forward to our next Science week here at Offley. I am passionate about embracing practical opportunities for the children to expand their learning by making lessons fun. At home I love spending time with my three dogs; especially my pug Darcy, I also thoroughly enjoy craft projects. 1SA is also very lucky to have Mrs Perry spending some time in our class during the week. Each week I will update our class page and share 1SA's learning journey with you all.
1SA’s P.E slots take place on a Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their P.E. kit for each of these days.
Children are prompted to change their reading book each day, if they have read their book. We encourage children to read atleast four times a week and they will recieve a sticker for this, consistent reading each week will enable children to receive the reading treat at the end of term.
We have had a great week here in 1SA!
In maths we have begun learning about time. Here we are with our clocks that we created, paying close attention to the hour and minute hand. We then used our own clocks to practise making different times such as 4 o’clock. We even began to read times on clocks too.
In English, we have completed our royal baby stories using our plans to help us. We have really enjoyed writing about our princes and princess’ and what mischief they could get up to in their homes.
During R.E with Mrs Clarkson this week we created some beautiful stained glass windows inspired by our learning of Bible parables.
In science, we went on a plant hunt on the school grounds. We hunted for a variety of plants including: daisies, dandelions and clovers. We also had lots of fun exploring roots. We learnt about their role in keeping plants alive. Here we are using our observation skills to look for differences between different plants and created detailed drawings of the roots.
In our topic session this week, we created a timeline of key events in Queen Elizabeth II’s life. We applied our knowledge of numbers to 100 to help us to order the dates.
On Wednesday, it was Offley’s sports day. 1SA demonstrated great resilience, teamwork and had lots of fun. Here are some action shots from the day.
Have a lovely half term everyone and get plenty of rest ready for a busy last half term as Year 1s!
We have been using studio code during our computing sessions. https://studio.code.org/courses
