1SA 2018 - 2019
Welcome to 1SA's class page!
Hi my name is Miss Allan and this is my fourth year teaching at Offley Primary Academy and it is my first time teaching Year 1, which I am thoroughly excited about. I coordinate Science with Mrs Till and we are already looking forward to our next Science week here at Offley. I am passionate about embracing practical opportunities for the children to expand their learning by making lessons fun. At home I love spending time with my three dogs; especially my pug Darcy, I also thoroughly enjoy craft projects. 1SA is also very lucky to have Mrs Perry spending some time in our class during the week. Each week I will update our class page and share 1SA's learning journey with you all.
1SA’s P.E slots take place on a Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their P.E. kit for each of these days.
Children are prompted to change their reading book each day, if they have read their book. We encourage children to read atleast four times a week and they will recieve a sticker for this, consistent reading each week will enable children to receive the reading treat at the end of term.
We have had a super week here in 1SA!
In maths we have been learning to add by making 10 and counting on. We used tens frames to help us to regroup numbers to make the number equations easier to solve. We then learnt how to use part- part whole to show how we partitioned the numbers.
Here are the STEM sentences we used to help us during our maths work:
“We always move to the highest number.”
“Make 10 and count on.”
In English, we completed our story map of part of Mrs Armitage on wheels,we used actions to help us to remember the parts of the story. We then edited part of our story map with our own ideas to show what food Mrs Armitage put on her bike, it all sounded very delicious! We then used our story map to write sentences applying our phonics and punctuation knowledge.
In our topic session, we learnt about the history of bikes and discovered that the first bike didn’t have any pedals or breaks, oh dear! We wrote about the different features of three bikes: the Running Machine, the Pen=nny Farthing and the M outainbike.
At Offley this week, we have been supporting Anti-bullying week and the theme of respect. As a class we discussed what respect means and the importance it plays in being a friend. In groups we sorted pictures into, good friend and bad friend, thinking carefully about our decisions. After lots of discussion we each created our own friendship hand, showing what a good friend should do.
Can you spot anything odd?
On Friday, Offley supported BBC Children in Need by wearing something Pudsey themed. A huge thank you for all of your support, everyone looked fantastic!
Our guided reading book this week, Pudsey’s Great Fundraiser led our discussion about how Pudsey raises money for charity.
On Friday we were also very lucky to watch the pantomime, Aladdin and it was fantastic!
Next week (19th Nov)
It's Road Safety week next week and we are very lucky to have GIST trucks visiting our school to help us to find out how to keep safe on the roads and around trucks. http://www.gistworld.com/home.aspx
In English we are going to be writing our own stories inspired by Mrs Armitage.
In Maths we are going to continue with the theme of addition.
