1SA 2019 - 2020
Welcome to 1SA's class page!
Hi my name is Miss Allan and this is my fifth year teaching at Offley Primary Academy and it is my second year teaching Year 1, which I am thoroughly excited about. I coordinate Science with Mrs Till and we are already looking forward to our next Science week here at Offley. I am passionate about embracing practical opportunities for the children to expand their learning by making lessons fun. At home I love spending time with my two dogs; especially my pug Darcy, I also thoroughly enjoy craft projects. 1SA is also very lucky to have Mrs Perry spending some time in our class during the week. Each week I will update our class page and share 1SA's learning journey with you all.
1SA’s P.E slots take place on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their P.E. kit for each of these days.
Children are prompted to change their reading book each day, if they have read their book. We encourage children to read at least four times a week and they will receive a sticker for this, consistent reading each week will enable children to receive the reading treat at the end of term.
We have had a busy week here in 1SA
In maths, we have begun adding up to 20. We began with using a number line to count on. We learnt that it is more efficient to start with the greatest number when counting on. We then moved on to making ten using tens frames when adding up to 20.
In English, we found that Nibbles The Book Monster had been up to more mischief. He had nibbled his way into three fairy tale stories: Goldilocks and The Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and The Beanstalk. We also learnt how to apply the ‘s’ and ‘es’ suffix when making words plural.
On Wednesday we supported Anti-Bullying week, we learnt what is meant by the term bullying, discussed what makes a good friend and the importance of caring for each other. We also wore odd socks in support.
In science, we have planned our class experiment on absorbency. We learnt what makes a material absorbent and considered the important parts of an experiment such as what we are going to keep the same, change and observe.
In geography, we located the five countries that make up the United Kingdom. Here is a completed map.
On Friday, we supported Children In Need by wearing sporty clothes or dressed in Pudsey accesories. We joined Jo Wicks in the big morning move and had lots of fun exercising with him along with the many other schools that took part. A huge thank you for all of your kind donations to support an extremely important cause.
