1SA 2018 - 2019
Welcome to 1SA's class page!
Hi my name is Miss Allan and this is my fourth year teaching at Offley Primary Academy and it is my first time teaching Year 1, which I am thoroughly excited about. I coordinate Science with Mrs Till and we are already looking forward to our next Science week here at Offley. I am passionate about embracing practical opportunities for the children to expand their learning by making lessons fun. At home I love spending time with my three dogs; especially my pug Darcy, I also thoroughly enjoy craft projects. 1SA is also very lucky to have Mrs Perry spending some time in our class during the week. Each week I will update our class page and share 1SA's learning journey with you all.
1SA’s P.E slots take place on a Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their P.E. kit for each of these days.
Children are prompted to change their reading book each day, if they have read their book. We encourage children to read atleast four times a week and they will recieve a sticker for this, consistent reading each week will enable children to receive the reading treat at the end of term.
We have had a super week this week!
This week at Offley it has been Science Week! We have had lots of fun this week carrying out a variety of science activities.
On Monday we began exploring chain reactions, in preparation for our own group chain reactions. We learnt about how chain reactions work and explored different materials. First, we planned our chain reactions, thinking carefully about what objects we would like to include and discussing problems that we may face. We then drew our first designs and then created them to see if they were successful. We demonstrated lots of resilience as we made our chain reactions, fixing problems as they occurred with our brilliant problem-solving skills.
Here are some examples of our chain reactions:
Alongside our chain reaction activity, we were also lucky enough to be visited by some volunteers that work in different areas of science. Here we are carrying out activities lead by dentists, we learnt how to brush our teeth correctly, which food is best for our teeth and how much sugar is in different food and drinks.
We were very lucky to watch a drone demonstration. Whereby, we had the chance to learn about a variety of different drones, see some of them fly and find out the amazing things they are used for.
On Friday, we took part in a variety of water activities. We learnt about water molecules and how they change when frozen or heated up. We also took part in pipe activity, where we learnt how water can be distributed through different pipes and how the water cycle works.
We also have some additional science activities which will be taking place in the next few weeks.
A huge thank you to all the parents and volunteers that made science week a success, without you science week wouldn’t be possible.
Next week (18th March)
In maths we are going to be exploring division further.
In English, we are going to be exploring a new text, Me and You by Anthony Browne.
