2SA 2017 - 2018
Hi my name is Miss Allan and this is my third year teaching at Offley Primary Academy. I coordinate Science with Mrs Maddox and we are already very excited for our next Science week here at Offley. I am passionate about embracing practical opportunities for the children to expand their learning by making lessons fun. At home I love spending time with my three dogs; especially my pug Darcy, I also thoroughly enjoy craft projects. 2SA is also very lucky to have Mrs Clarkson and Mrs Gray spending some time in our class during the week. We also have the fabulous Miss France as part of our team.
2SA’s P.E slots take place on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their P.E. kit for each of these days.
Children are prompted to change their reading book each day, if they have read their book. We encourage children to read atleast four times a week and they will recieve a sticker for this, consistent reading each week will enable children to receive the reading treat at the end of term.
We have had a super week here in 2SA!
In Maths we have been investigating multiplication by creating equal groups and then finding out how arrays can be used to show multiplication. We learnt that arrays can show multiplication two main different ways e.g. 3 x 2 is the same as 2 x3. We then moved onto challenges such as, is 18 is same as 3 x 3? We found the answer using arrays to help us.
In English we have been very busy learning the opening of our example text, Tom and the Dinosaur Egg. We used drama to act out the story so far, paying close attention to punctuation and the different vocabulary that the author used.
In our Topic sessions this week, we created Pic Collages to match our dinosaur fact files. We researched our dinosaur’s skeleton, footprints and what their skin looked like. We will use these to create pieces of art work next week.
In Science this week, we tested different materials to see if we could change their shape by using actions such as bending and stretching.
In Geography this week, we used our map skills to find out which countries make up the United Kingdom and their capital cities. We also applied our knowledge of the world’s continents to discuss which continent the United Kingdom is part of.
Next week (15th January)
In Maths we are going to be solving problems using what we have learnt about multiplication so far and representing multiplication in a variety of ways.
In English we are going to look at the structure used in Tom and the Dinosaur Egg in more detail and learn how to punctuate speech correctly.
