Romans VS Volcanoes: Who Won?

Welcome to 4BH's class page!

2018-19

Please remember to bring your PE kit and a waterbottle. Also, please make sure everything is clearly named so that lost property can be returned.

Please remember that P.E. kits should be kept in school at all times.  Some children still don't have a full kit (that fits) in school.

15th March 2019

Congrtulations to our star of the week, Lucy, for superb use of relative clauses and fronted adverbials in her writing. Also, to our whole class for being kind, caring, thoughtful, wonderful and brilliant.

Wow! What an exciting week we have had this week. Science week has been super exciting, from designing and making our own chain reactions to learning how to make cheese from special visitors into school. You can see from the photographs how much fun we have had!

Maths - This week, we have been calculating and converting units of time. We can now show times in years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds!!  Next week, we are moving onto decimals.

English - Our current genre is stories with a historical setting. This week, we have been using our class text, Escape from Pompeii to explore the feelings of characters using hot seating and also defining the space to explore the setting. We have learnt how to use relative clauses in a sentence and how to start with a fronted averbial.

Topic - We have learnt about the different types of homes the Romans lived in and even discovered that they invented some things we use today, such as running water in homes, apartment blocks, concrete and even underfloor heating!

Art - We have been looking at Roman Mosaics and have recreated a number of mosaics in our sketch books.

Mrs Hankinson

Hello everyone! After graduating with a degree in ICT and Education 15 years ago (start guessing my age), I completed a PGCE at MMU and have been teaching ever since. My favourite subject to teach is Art and I quite like maths too, which is funny because it was my worst subject when I was at school. I love my job, not just for those "lightbulb moments" but for the fun and laughs we get to have every day! When I am not teaching, I am looking after my two wonderful children who are 4 and 2, they certainly keep me on my toes! I love to go walking with our black lab, Oscar, travel and having fun with my family. I have thought of three interesting things to tell you about me which you might not know: 1. I have jumped out of an aeroplane! 2. I have heli-hiked on top of a glacier in New Zealand. 3. I am really interested in extreme weather.

Mrs Bennion

Hello...  This is my first year taking a class here at Offley, although I have been covering the majority of the supply work in most of the classroms for the past two years.  I really am looking forward to the challenge of a permanent position sharing your class with Mrs Hankinson and cannot wait to get stuck into this autumn term.  I'm quite an outgoing and sporty person and (for my sins) am a keen supporter of Stoke City.  I enjoy going on holiday to Turkey and also skiing with my family and my two small children, Gracie who is four and Joshua who is two.  In the little spare time that I have for myself, I'm a keen Thai Boxer and I coach a ladies only class at the gym in which I train.
