Mrs Hankinson

Ancient Egypt

Welcome to 4BH's class page!

2018-19

Please remember to bring your PE kit and a waterbottle. Also, please make sure everything is clearly named so that lost property can be returned.

16th September 2018

Please remember that P.E. kits should be kept in school at all times.  Some children still don't have a full kit (that fits) in school.

Congratulations to our star of the week, Zoe , who has made a superb start to Offley and has shown an outstanding attitude to her learning.

English – we have used talk for writing to write our innovation texts. We have then been looking at imperative verbs and punctuation in our sentence work. We had a special visitor too! A royal embalmer from Ancient Egypt called Achilus came to visit us to demonstrate the process of mummification. As she is retiring soon, she is looking for a new apprentice and would like us to write a set of instructions to see who knows what they are doing! We have taken some notes and have begun to plan our ideas. Next week we will be writing these.

In Maths, we have been gaining a greater depth of knowledge with our place value for numbers up to 10,000.  We have been looking at how the value changes with each column. We have been looking at patterns when you add or subtract 1 more, 10 more, 100 more and 1000 more. Next week we will be exploring patterns in number sequences.

Topic – The children have been looking at Ancient Egyptian artefacts and using them to ask questions about the past.

In PE, we have been increasing our heart rate with aerobic style dance moves and have practiced our movement on the ball and passing skills in football.

Mrs Hankinson

Hello everyone! After graduating with a degree in ICT and Education 15 years ago (start guessing my age), I completed a PGCE at MMU and have been teaching ever since. My favourite subject to teach is Art and I quite like maths too, which is funny because it was my worst subject when I was at school. I love my job, not just for those "lightbulb moments" but for the fun and laughs we get to have every day! When I am not teaching, I am looking after my two wonderful children who are 4 and 2, they certainly keep me on my toes! I love to go walking with our black lab, Oscar, travel and having fun with my family. I have thought of three interesting things to tell you about me which you might not know: 1. I have jumped out of an aeroplane! 2. I have heli-hiked on top of a glacier in New Zealand. 3. I am really interested in extreme weather.

Mrs Bennion

Hello...  This is my first year taking a class here at Offley, although I have been covering the majority of the supply work in most of the classroms for the past two years.  I really am looking forward to the challenge of a permanent position sharing your class with Mrs Hankinson and cannot wait to get stuck into this autumn term.  I'm quite an outgoing and sporty person and (for my sins) am a keen supporter of Stoke City.  I enjoy going on holiday to Turkey and also skiing with my family and my two small children, Gracie who is four and Joshua who is two.  In the little spare time that I have for myself, I'm a keen Thai Boxer and I coach a ladies only class at the gym in which I train.
