4BH 2018 - 2019

Mrs Hankinson

Where does my pizza come from?

Welcome to 4BH's class page!

Please remember to bring your PE kit and a waterbottle. Also, please make sure everything is clearly named so that lost property can be returned.

Please remember that P.E. kits should be kept in school at all times.  Some children still don't have a full kit (that fits) in school.

Congratulations to Olivia Holland on achieving star of the week for an amazing attitude to her learning. Well done!

Maths - we have continued with work on volume, reading scales and converting litres to ml. After half term, we will be looking at measuring height, converting cm, mm, and km and using measurements to calculate the perimeter of shapes.

In English we have continued our topic on poetry and have started by looking at nouns and abstract nouns to create a unique and exciting title for our poems.  For example, The Cellar of Deception, The School of Terror, The Stadium of Emotions and The Beach of Excitement are a few of the ideas created.  We have then learnt the poem, The Cave of Curiosity. We have completed work on alliteration and used our ideas to innovate our own version of the poem.

Topic- we have been locating capital cities across Europe, creating fact files for the UK and Italy and locating major landmarks across Italy.

In Science we continued our topic of food chains and have learnt the scientific vocabulary reating to this.  The children created simple food chains which included producers, primary, secondary and tertiary consumers and next week will move on to look at food webs.

We have focussed on sprinting and hurdling this week in P.E.  Looking at the techniques used by athletes and and trying to replicate these in our own races. Please can you ensure that your child has a P.E. kit in school suitable for the weather as a number of children are still having to borrow from friends.

Please can everyone have appropriate kit in school.  Could you also provide suncream if the weather is hot and sunny again.  The children are welcome to wear a sun hat if the weather deems it appropriate.

Mrs Hankinson

Hello everyone! After graduating with a degree in ICT and Education 15 years ago (start guessing my age), I completed a PGCE at MMU and have been teaching ever since. My favourite subject to teach is Art and I quite like maths too, which is funny because it was my worst subject when I was at school. I love my job, not just for those "lightbulb moments" but for the fun and laughs we get to have every day! When I am not teaching, I am looking after my two wonderful children who are 4 and 2, they certainly keep me on my toes! I love to go walking with our black lab, Oscar, travel and having fun with my family. I have thought of three interesting things to tell you about me which you might not know: 1. I have jumped out of an aeroplane! 2. I have heli-hiked on top of a glacier in New Zealand. 3. I am really interested in extreme weather.

Mrs Bennion

Hello...  This is my first year taking a class here at Offley, although I have been covering the majority of the supply work in most of the classroms for the past two years.  I really am looking forward to the challenge of a permanent position sharing your class with Mrs Hankinson and cannot wait to get stuck into this autumn term.  I'm quite an outgoing and sporty person and (for my sins) am a keen supporter of Stoke City.  I enjoy going on holiday to Turkey and also skiing with my family and my two small children, Gracie who is four and Joshua who is two.  In the little spare time that I have for myself, I'm a keen Thai Boxer and I coach a ladies only class at the gym in which I train.
