My name is Mr Mason. I have been at Offley for over four years and I have been teaching for over 16 years. During this time I have taught across schools in Kent and Cheshire. I am a member of the senior leadership team running the Lower Keystage 2 team; I am also the Assessment and History coordinator. I am married with 4 children, I keep fit and love reading. My favourite genre is historical fiction, though I love any type of history.
Welcome back after half term, I hope you all had a lovely week's break and are now ready for Autumn part 2! Here is a summary of our week and events to come!
In maths this week the children have started to look at using mental strategies for addition. We explored how to regroup numbers to help us add them together.
|In this example we have regrouped the number 9 into a 2 and 7. The 2 was added to 38 to make it a round number which then makes it easier to mentally add the 7.|
Next week we are going to be looking at subtracting numbers.
We now have a new Math website for the chidren to use and practice their skills. It is called PRODIGY and all the childreb now have log in info.
The school has bought into TTRock Stars which is a fantastic website designed to challenge the children to learn their timetables.You will hear a lot more about this over the course of the year but please support your child in playing the games.
In Literacy this week we started to look at Diary writing. The children have created a success criteria after analysing a good example of a diary. They have also learnt the structure of the text through Talk4Writing. . In guided reading we have continued with 'Oi Caveboy', with the children focussing on the author's choice of words. Next week we will start to write our own Diaries based on the Stone Age Boy.
In PE we went swimming and started to develop our front crawl. In PBL we continued our Science objectives about Digestion. We are exploring Stone Age food and covering our Science objectives about digestion and the body. In music we continued to look at dynamics, pitch, tempo and timbre, creating ideas for some music which would tell the story of a mammoth hunt.
|The structure of our digestion system using dominoes.|
Next week the children will finish the science, music and art and we are aiming to have a parent's open afternoon towards the end of November to visit our Offley Museum. Watch out for the letter home!
In year four the children have or will be exploring more about e-safety and what it is / not safe for them to do. Here is a link the children will have seen in school which you can watch with them at home;
