My name is Mr Mason. I have been at Offley for over five years and I have been teaching for over 17 years. During this time I have taught across schools in Kent and Cheshire. I am a member of the senior leadership team running the Lower Keystage 2 team; I am also the Assessment and History coordinator. I am married with 4 children, I keep fit and love reading. My favourite genre is historical fiction, though I love any type of history.
Welcome back to the SUMMER term! Who would of believed that we are now into the last 13 weeks of the school year! I hope you had a great Easter break and the children are ready for a really busy new term!
In math this week the children have been finding the fraction of a given amount. First we founf one part of an amount then multiple parts. Ask the children to explain our STEM sentence to you: 1. The whole is _______ 2. The denominator is ______ 3. First we find 1 part. 4. We divide the whole byy the numerator. 5. This equals 1 part. 6. To find more than one part we multiply 1 part by the numerator.
|This will help!|
As you know we have a new Math's website for the chidren to use and practice their skills. It is called PRODIGY and all the childreb now have log in info. Please encourage your children to use it..
The school has bought into TTRock Stars which is a fantastic website designed to challenge the children to learn their timetables. You will hear a lot more about this over the course of the year but please support your child in playing the games.
In Literacy this week the children have been working on writing their own information text based on notes we have taken about the Maya. The children have found this a challenge as they have had to turn their notes into meaningful sentences, collate the notes into paragraphs and link them together. Not an easy task! We have focussed on a mix of sentence structures and using adverbial phrases to alter our sentence starters. We have used the acronym TRaMP to help us.
The children started to make their Maya masks this week in D&T. They also started to learn a tune on the recorder with Mrs Clarkson. In PE we are starting athletics. Our science this half term is electricity and the children started this week by looking at how it is made and how it reaches our homes! Our big PBL question is:
The children have been learning about Mayahousing and clothes..
