5HF 2018 - 2019
Welcome to 5HF's class page!
Mrs Hirst and Mrs Furlong are the double act for 5HF! We have both been teaching for many years and have lots of experience especially in upper KS2. Mrs Hirst is the school SENCo and Mrs Furlong is the maths lead.
This year we are really looking forward to having lots of fun. We are kicking off the year with the Ancient Greeks.
For your information:
PE days are Thursday and Friday
Spelling test is Friday
Times Table tests are on Thursday
Homework will be using the choices sheet, plus some additional English and Maths as required.
Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope you have had a lovely break. The children certainly seem to have recharged their batteries!
This week in English we have been started our topic on Newspaper reports. The children are learning the text using Talk for Writing. Here is a picture of the text. I wonder how mnay children can remember it at home!
In maths we have kicked off with Roman Numerals and then we spent 3 days on negative numbers which the children have understood well. Here is some of the work from their books:
In science, the children understood how to prove that our Earth is spherical not flat and they created a poster to explain how they would this. We linked this work to our Vikings topic and the children thought about how they could convince a Viking leader to navigate the seas without falling off the 'Edge of the world!'
In Geography we have learned what a settle ment requires and have started to create a map of our own Viking settlement using Ordnanace Survey map symbols and a key.
This week we had to say goodbye to one of our classmates. He is off to a new school and we wish him lots of luck.
Star of the week this week is Isaac Lucas and Orla Kelly
