5JM 2018 - 2019
Welcome to 5JM's class page!
Hello, I'm Mrs Maddox and this year will be my fourth here at Offley. I thoroughly enjoy teaching in Year 5 and this year I will also be co-leading mathematics with Mrs Furlong.
I have lived in Cheshire for over three years now and love exploring new places within the local area. In my spare time I enjoy baking, reading, exercising, going for long walks and to music concerts and spending time with my friends and family.
PE days are Thursday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor)
Times table tests are on Thursday
Spelling tests are on Friday
Homework will be from the choices sheet, in addition to Maths and English when given out.
Week ending: 21.09.18
In maths we have been exploring and using comparative bar models to compare numbers up to one million. We then carried out some work into number patterns and solved some reasoning problems linked to this.
In English this week we boxed up and identified the features of the non-chronological report about the Incas we learnt last week. We then used this model to carry out research in preparation to write our non-chronological report about the Egyptians. We will eventually write a final 'hot write' non-chronological report about the Ancient Greeks.
In our topic work this week we identified and analysed the different features of an Ancient Greek temple, such as the cella, columns and the frieze.
In science we also carried out an investigation into which would be the best cloth to soak up Nico's spilt wine (from our class text!) In groups the children had to discuss what variables they would measure, observe, change and keep the same.
This term we will be learning Taiko drumming every Thursday afternoon with Mr Proctor - our drummer of the week this week was Ben! Last weeks drummer of the week was Josh! Well done!
