Science at Offley

Our Aim:
Our teaching of Science at Offley Primary Academy aims to provide all children with a deep understanding of the world around them. Our intention is for pupils to develop their subject specific knowledge and to understand how key scientific concepts are vital to understanding the workings of the world. We encourage pupils to take ownership of their development, fostering their curiosity in the hope that they remain as life long learners that question aspects of their surrounding environment. Our pupils have the opportunity to share their learning across phases and get the chance to ‘talk’ science. Through the teaching of Science we aim to develop children’s thinking skills in order to generate creative minds and resilient problem solvers who can work in teams, work on their own and apply their skills to other areas of learning. We want our learners to have a wide range of experiences and to be able to think, question, ponder, analyse and have moments of ‘wonder’. We encourage children to question stereotypes within Science and understand that anyone is and can be a scientist!

This year we are working towards achieving the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM) Award. This award enables us to celebrate our areas of strengths as well as develop areas that require further development. We encouraged both staff and pupil voice in order to create a set of principles that outlines what good science looks like at Offley!
