Group 1

Spelling rule: ‘shun’ sound spelt as tion and ation.

Spellings: education, operation,  vaccination,  multiplication, position, competition , attention, description.

Spellings are tested on a Friday and the new spellings will be given out on the same day. The children are asked to research a further 7 words which follow the same spelling pattern for the week. They are given 7 or 8 words which will definitely be tested and they will be tested on a further 7 at random. It is important that the children research and practice a range of words so that they learn their spelling pattern.

 

Group 2

Spelling rule: adding ing, ed. If there is a consonant or two vowels together add ing/ed; if there is a single vowel, double the last letter and add ed/ing.

Spellings: cooking, cooked, washing, washed, hugging, hugged, shopping, shopped.

Spellings are tested on a Friday and the new spellings will be given out on the same day. The children are asked to research a further 7 words which follow the same spelling pattern for the week. They are given 7 or 8 words which will definitely be tested and they will be tested on a further 7 at random. It is important that the children research and practice a range of words so that they learn their spelling pattern.

 

Group 3

Spelling Rule: Words that contain the ay sound with ai, a_e and ay spellings.

Spellings: play, stay, make, fake, rain, pain, shame, blame.

Spellings are tested on a Friday and the new spellings will be given out on the same day. The children are asked to research a further 7 words which follow the same spelling pattern for the week. They are given 7 or 8 words which will definitely be tested and they will be tested on a further 7 at random. It is important that the children research and practice a range of words so that they learn their spelling pattern.
