Maths at Offley Primary Academy
We believe that Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering (software engineer, data scientist etc, aircraft engineer etc.), and necessary in most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
As a result, we ensure that, through adaptive and inclusive teaching, all children develop ‘number sense’ (the ability to understand number and quantity intuitively). All children also gain knowledge of the key facts and strategies to reduce cognitive load when problem solving. Finally, children develop their conceptual fluency, as well as their ability to reason and problem solve.
This leads to children becoming independent, confident and resilient mathematicians who can apply maths in a range of contexts.
