Science
Our curriculum is designed to ensure that our children build on their prior knowledge and that this knowledge is retained and built upon as they progress throughout the year, and their time in school. Children gain an understanding of scientific processes and an awareness of the uses and implications of science, today and for the future. The children are also encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. Pupils are stimulated to develop a sense of excitement, curiosity and fascination about natural phenomena that will remain with them throughout their lives.
Science in our school is about developing children’s ideas that enable them to make sense of the world in which they live through scientific enquiries. The teachers and staff at Offley Primary Academy ensure that all children are exposed to an ambitious curriculum, high quality teaching and learning experiences which develop their scientific enquiry and investigative skills. We offer a wide variety of opportunities outside of the curriculum that provide children with rich and purposeful experiences, impacting on children’s cultural capital. We provide enhancements such as educational visits, speakers, workshops and community involvement. These high quality experiences allow our pupils to become well rounded, educated citizens who learn from a variety of educators that have different expertise and passion for science. Our aim is to create well rounded global citizens who, from an early age, develop a love of science, as well as the world around them.
We provide an inclusive and adaptive curriculum that meets the needs of all children regardless of ethnic origin, gender, class, aptitude or disability. Science is taught with links to other areas of the curriculum including Mathematics, English, Geography, Art and ICT. High- quality fiction and non-fiction texts are used to enrich, support and deepen the pupils understanding of concepts and knowledge.
